The final event of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia calendar, the Rally Tmutarakan was won by newcomer Denis Rostilov, ahead of Yury Uryukov and Andrey Vavilin. The eight-stage, 112km event saw Alexey Ignatov finish fourth which was enough to see him take the 2014 drivers’ title.

Ignatov struggled with tyre trouble on his Polo, but his rival Arkady Bogomolov also had problems with the gearbox on his car, leaving the title challenger to finish in sixth place. A total of eight teams lined up to compete in the final rally of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia season.

The fifth round of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia was won by Arkady Bogomolov and co-driver Oleg Zimin. The 81-kilometre event, which was held as part of the Russian rally cup Rostov Velikiy, rewarded the Russian duo when Alexey Igatov had to retire.

Bogomolov and Zimin’s compatriot Andrey Vavilin took secind place, while Roman Katunin finished third. The next round of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia will be held between 8-9 August at the Rally Wyborg between Saint Petersburg and the Finnish border.

At the fourth round of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia, Mikhail Krivospickiy and Marina Glushkova scored their debut win at the White Nights Rally in Karelia. Ahead of Arkadiy Bogomolov and Vladimir Melnikov, the Russian pair benefitted from a rare driving error made by Alexey Ignatov.

Ignatov led for most of the 124-kilometre Karelia race, and has also won the first three rounds of the season. He lost 17 minutes on the final special stage, as well as the resulting victory. The next round of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia will be held in Strugi Krasnye from 11-12 July.

The recent Taman Rally saw Alexey Ignatov and his co-driver Alina Kondratyeva score their third win in as many events in the 2014 Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia calendar. The event saw 11 teams compete in Polo rally cars against the clock. On the first day, Ignatov and Arkadiy Bogomolov fought duels over 81 kilometres and six Special Stages.

However, Bogomolov, who led at the halfway point of the event, skidded off the road on day two to leave the way free for Ignatov. Rounding out the podium’s overall results on the final day was Vadim Leluh who was second, while Vladimir Melnikov finished the event in third place. Both Polo hatchback and saloon (Polo Sedan) versions of Volkswagen’s globally-marketed small car are used in the series.

In the first of nine rounds, Alexey Ignatov and Alina Kondratieff (RUS/RUS) emerged victorious at the recent opening stages of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia. The 165bhp Volkswagen Polo which conforms to the technical specifications of the RC5 rally class, led the fourth ‘Rally Masters Show’ in Moscow rankings early. The Russian duo led to the end of the rally, climbing onto the podium after 39 kilometres of six special stages.

Vadim Lelyukh and Alexander Danilov (RUS/RUS) finished second. The final step on the podium was awarded to a duo from Germany. Starting as a guest driver, Helmar Hinneberg (D), experienced rally co-driver and member of the Volkswagen Motorsport Meteo crew in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), navigated the German journalist Reiner Kuhn into third place.
